Hi and welcome to the site

You are not applying for NCLEX but registration to be a RN in the US of which NCLEX is part of that process. You need to check with the Board of nursing to see what is their requirements for foreign trained nurses, that will be the most up to date place to look. Illinois BON

I would also suggest a read on immigration issues and retrogression as currently all nurses are affected and no idea when it will change

CGFNS exam is not required, only the CES done by CGFNS. There is no such thing as direct NCLEX as you are unable to apply for it, you need permission from a state BON to be able to sit for the exam.

Hi,

Could you please clarify what is CES?

Currently I am working in India as an RN. Can I go to Chicago since my husband is there and do the NCLEX - RN exam by applying in State BON in Chicago?

I have not qualifed for CGFNS or IELTS.

Kindly send reply to assist me.

Thanks & Regards,

http://www.cgfns.org/sections/programs/ces/ here is the link you require and would recommend the full course. Download and read the handbook and all information there on what to do.

In what capacity is your husband in Chicago? If he is a US citizen then you do not need visa screen certificate and will get a green card so not affected by retrogression. If he is there on a work visa then you may find you have some issues depending on type of work permit. If H1b then you can not work and can not adjust as currently everyone is affected by retrogression and no visas. Will also need English exam and Visa screen certificate.

Chicago is a city and you will need to go thru Illinois Board of Nursing for licensure in the US.

CES is a credentials evaluation that is done by CGFNS and is required before you will be permitted to write the NCLEX exam.

You are not required to write the CGFNS exam, but you are required to complete the English exams to be able to write the exam for Illinois, they have a language requirement.

And as Anna mentioned, it will depend on what type of visa that your husband is on if you will be permitted to work any time soon. We do have a retrogression in place and that is going to prevent you from working in most cases.

Please refer to threads about the retrogression as well as threads here about working in Chicago or Illinois. They contain all of the information that you need to know.
