CGFNS registration expired?

Published

Hey! Many moons ago I was in the stages of applying to nurse in the USA, from the UK, specifically California. I had the go ahead from the California state board of nursing to sit my NCLEX after they checked my transcripts, fingerprints etc, and then real life happened.

Ten years, a husband and 2 children later I was thinking about picking up where I left off. However I was wondering do I have to go through the checking of transcripts again? Still looking at California. Fingerprints I get, in case I was a naughty girl in the mean time :)

Yes, too many years have gone by and CA will not accept application from you now without a US SSN and that if you haven't already got will not happen until in the US with a valid work/immigrant visa

Ah ok, thanks. I assume I can't get the valid visa without having a job offer, which I can't get without having the recognised qualifications and passed tests? :)

You may have to start with another state, get registration sorted and pass NCLEX then look for employer in CA and once you have your work/immigrant visa that employer applies for once in the US with US SSN you can then apply to CA who now are using CGFNS and wait to see if they will accept your credentials now as many things have changed in 10 years

Ah so it's possible to apply for a job in a different state to the one you are registered to? And by being offered a job generates a ssn? Sorry, it's late and I have a virus :)

No, being in the US with a valid work or immigrant visa is what generates US SSN
