CGFNS application

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi folks,

I am holidaying in Dallas at the moment and have always wanted to work here. My partner's children live in Texas so I am trying to get through the paperwork to apply for the CGFNS exam etc.

I've worked in the UK as a RGN since 1976 - I'm trying to trace my training records for the CES but being so long ago I'm having problems about where to send the forms to. Does anyone have any ideas please?

I am also wondering whether it would be better to apply from our Dallas address for the exam and sit it in Texas or apply from UK and take the test in London.

The final question is does anyone know whether I can take a health care assistant post for the time being and then start the registration process.

Sorry this is so long but I would be grateful for any help possible.

Thanks in advance, Tabz

Hi Tabz,

I'll try to answer your questions, but you would be best posting this on the International Forum where you would get more input.

Firstly, as a UK citizen, you would have to apply to CGFNS from your UK address. You are a 'foreign educated RN' and there are specific steps to take in order to apply for a license in any US State. You can take the test anywhere, US or UK, the exam is the same wherever you do it.

Regarding your training transcripts, you should contact your School of Nursing where you did your training. If your school no longer exists, try NMC, they may be able to help.

Your final question about getting a HCA post in the US, that would be nigh on impossible. Just can't be done.....immigration issues....sorry :o

If you have a look at the International Nursing forum, there's a ton of info there, and Suzanne, the Moderator, will answer any other questions you have.

Good luck :)

Tina
