Where have you looked so far? Traction is usually divided into skeletal and skin. Using a pin or rod through a bone and attaching traction to the the rod/pin would be skeletal traction.

Using a wrap, tape or other halter device would be skin traction.

Try doing a search on orthopedic traction and I think you will find what you seek.

We use skeletal traction for fractured/dislocated cervical spine, and haven't seen halter traction used for many years.

The National Association of Orthopaedic Nurses has published references about traction--both skeletal and skin. You can get archives of those articles by writing to www.orthopaedicnursing.com. We also have published research regarding pin care for skeletal traction. :coollook: I've been doing orthopaedic nursing for about 20 years and I haven't seen a cervical halter in at least 10 of those years. Zimmer publishes a very good traction manual also. Hope you find what you are looking for.

We havent seen cervical traction for years either. The only traction we use is for pre op fx. 5 pounds bucks traction on all hips. Occasionally in peds we will see some traction but actually i havent even seen that for several years.
