I am going to be 22 years old next month. I have been a nurse for 4 years now. 1 year in OB where we have epidurals, do our own C-sections and tubals and recover those patients after anethesia, 2 years ER, 1 and 1/2 year 2 12 hours days per week in a level one CCU. I have ACLS, PALS, and NRP. I am preparing to take my CCRN this summer. My GPA is 3.5 (nursing classes 3.8). I know you are wondering, how is she 22 and a nurse 4 years? I graduated high school (not GED) when I was 16, graduated nursing school when I was 18, the rest is history. I finish my BSN this December and I am taking O-chemistry this fall. I have completed all of while being the mother of 4 boys, two before I ever graduated from high school. Paying for school is not a concern. Does anyone out there with some experience in this think I will get in, what can I do about bettering mu chances?:coollook:

Sorry to tell you but it is the truth. I do not neglect my kids. At one point in time when I was going through nursing school I did not see them as often as I wanted to but never neglected. As far as my husband is concerned, he is very supportive but I have not always had him around. We have been married for 4 years and my oldest child is 8, you do the math (if you can). I know there are simple minded people out their such as your self. I can not help it that when I became pregnant I decided to make sure I did something with my life and from the way you sound, you are the type of person that if placed in the same situation would drop out of school and end up on welfare. Sorry if I have more self respect than that!:angryfire

I had difficulty w/ the numbers also...

start H.S at age 12 or 13

graduate @ 16 with 2 kids

married @ 16

finish ADN @ 18 work for four years as nurse while going back to school for BSN and while having 2 more kids.

now almost 22 wants to get into CRNA school has no problem paying for school because her husband and four kids will all be moving into mom's house.

hmmm...

i guess it's possible, just at first glance it doesn't seem to add up b/c you would think there would be some gaps in the timeline secondary to you having four kids at such a young age.

but anyway yes i think you have good stats, but would stick to discussing only your academic achievments when the time comes, you don't want to raise any eyebrows for the wrong reasons ( not saying you did wrong , but inherently your story will raise eyebrows and you never know how people will interpret it.)

it certainly raised my eyebrows

Im almost in the same situation. I went to philippines for HS and gratuated 2003 age 16. and skipped 2 years of HS b/c they dont have 6th or 7th grade. however my grades slipped but i still passed and im am now in college just waiting so I can enroll in the nurisng program.

To luster-congratulations on all that you have accomplished! You are obviously a very intelligent and strong person. Please do not think that everyone in anesthesia is narrowminded and ridiculously judgemental, as some earlier posts may have made it seem. I never read vtwincrna's post, but it obviously wasn't very encouraging since it was deleted. As a SRNA, I wish you the best of luck. You've come so far under very strenous conditions, and I have no doubt you can make it through anesthesia school. Good luck!
