Hello. Does anyone have their CPHM certification? I emailed McKesson to inquire about the cost of the self study text. I was hoping someone attended one of McKesson's 2 day seminars, for I read it helped you pass the exam. Thanks so much!

Have you checked the credentialling website? I think they might have links to programs.

Yes, I emailed McKesson and received the information and price (expensive!). I just was curious if anyone on this site took the exam and how difficult it was.

Specializes in ED, ICU, MS/MT, PCU, CM, House Sup, Frontline mgr.

I know of two people who took the exam... I had a friend take the exam and not pass, but she also was not good at performing her job in UR and was forced to retire.... So... she is a bad example. I know of another person who took and passed the exam... She reported that it was straight forward. She was also a good UR nurse. So, my guess it will depend how much experience you may or may not have... It also may help to take their very expensive prep course. Good luck.

Thanks for the info, appreciate! I was thinking the same, attend the 2 day seminar, which may be helpful.

I just found out that as of December 2014 McKesson will no longer offer CPHM certification or recertification. I am very disappointed as my certification is less than 2 years old. They will allow you to certify 1 more time if you do it before the end of this year. The certification will be good till December 2016 and then will end for good.

I am sorry to hear this since you and others went through the trouble of obtaining the credentials and paid the hefty price. However, I always thought of it as just a big money maker for the company with no true benefit for CMs.

For example, not many employers require the cert because most do not care if a CM obtains the cert or not. Many employers will train staff to properly use the updated versions of the software and write protocol to hold staff accountable for proper use of the software. Also, McKesson changes their software and thus the requirements for patients to meet criteria without a secondary review almost every 6 months if not less (like 3 months). So, I never found a use for obtaining the certification other than possibly bragging rights. However, given that no one seems to care one way or the other, maybe there are no bragging rights, at least not in my part of the country?

Do you know if they will replace the former certification with something else or are they through with certifying people???

Wow, unreal. I just went on the website and indeed you are correct. Wonder how many people wasted their money for a certification that is no longer honored. I am glad I didn't, still paying for student loans.
