I am curious if there is anyone on here who has been a single parent as a CNM student and how hard it was? I am currently in my BSN program and will be applying to the CNM program for Fall 2016. I am unsure if I will do part time or full time, but I am thinking I might do the pt option. My husband and I are currently having problems and are separating, potentially divorcing. We have 4 kids that are 12, 10, 8, 5. If I am accepted, they will be 13, almost 12, 9.5, and almost 7. All would be in school at that time. I also will need to work(right now I work weekends for the most part, plus a prn job...so 5 days a week, but when starting school will just be doing my regular FT job).

Need advice and thoughts on how you made this work!

I am a single mom with 2 kids (8 and 11), both with very significant special needs. I finish CNM school in less than a MONTH!!!! I am completing my integration right now, which means 50+ hours a week at the clinic and hospital. I also work per diem, usually 2-4 shifts a month. My kids' dad is very involved and I definitely do not know how i would do it without his willingness to pick up the extra slack with childcare, doctors appointments, etc. I also have 2 very reliable sitters who are able to come at 5am or stay till midnight when needed.

It is hard on the kids at times. It is very, very hard on me. To be blunt, it sucks. But. It is doable, and it is worth it. I live off credit cards and paid for all my tuition with loans, and try to work as little as possible so I can maximize my time at home.

Kudos to you, cayenne, for making it work!

I am a pre-nursing student, so I have a while till midwifery school (will begin my actual BSN in the fall of 2016).

I am happily married with a supportive spouse, but I have 8 children so I am very inspired by those that did it despite challenges.

Wow cayenne. That's good. I will have to use school loans as well. Right now my husband just isn't supportive at all and we are currently living in NC but wanting to go back to his home town in Louisiana which is not what I want at all.
