Does anyone find getting certified helpful in their career ? Does the cost count as a tax deduction? I want to be certfied in med surg and bariatrics next year. I am sure it will not help with pay at current employer but will help with state licensure. I do know my employer would not help with the cost to be certified

I have no idea about the tax deduction. Are you talking for the test cost?
I get paid a 1.00 more an hour, and yes, it looks good on a resume and the extra education has been helpful. It has zero impact on my license though. The state doesn't care at all.
NC has says it counts toward the required continuing ed units for renewal. Yes the test cost. It is expensive so I would like a tax credit I hope
Yes, the continuing ed credits I have to have for my CMSRN count toward my state continuing ed. In fact, I only need 15 for my state, but 18 for my CMSRN. Sadly, the course prior to my testing was worth 60 credits did not count because I had to be in class after my birthday and it ended TWO days prior.
No idea on the test cost. It would be nice if you could use it for a tax write off.
Does the study guide help?

I treated the review course as a book purchase, since it enhanced my career, and used it as a tax deduction. Not a CPA though, so my advice might be faulty. I do believe the certs help your career, because you really do learn a lot in getting them and in keeping them. The credentials look good on a resume and, overall, add to your professionalism. The contact hours are great for me, as I work in a state that requires them with renewal.
IMO, I think they did help. I took a 16 week class sponsored by a local University and paid for by my hospital. When it came to the test, even though the class did help, the books carried a lot of weight toward the test. I think the biggest help was the book of review questions. They resemble the quirky ones you might see on the test.
