I've worked in a few different areas of peds - hospital, homecare (visit cases, clinical management, and shift cases) and camp nursing - and will be taking a course in school nursing in the fall. I'm considering sitting for certification (CPN). Has anyone here gotten certified in Peds - if so, how did you study for it, and for how long, and how was the exam? I'm currently reviewing Wong's Essentials (7th ed) for starters.

I am going to take mine too. I have been a peds nurse for a long time...but working minimal staff relief hours...while the kids were young.
I got a book at the bookstore...Lippincott...it is just a pedi book for boards. 1st chap is infants...and it goes on from there. Has some study questions at the end of each chapter. Forgot all about Erikson and Piaget and Freud:trout:.
I would love to hear what anyone that has taken the CPN has to say.
Here is a link to the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board:

There is a list of resources & more information.
You have to have worked a minimum of 1800 hours in a pediatric area in the past 24 months, regardless of past experience. I don't work full-time either, so I'm going to have to check on my hours from the past 2 yrs. This seems to be regardless of previous years experience...it's not cumulative experience... but current experience... based only on the last 24 months.

Just ordered a review book from The Society of Pediatric Nurses titled "Pediatric Nursing Certification Review." Authors: Janice Selekman, Louise D. Jakubik
I'm planning on taking the certification exam early next year.
