Hello Everyone,
Well, I've been searching thru the posts for a loooooong time and I have yet to find answers and opinions to my specific question. Ok well Im currently a nursing student that is graduating this year and I was wondering if anyone knows of any hospitals that have OB floors. I currently live in Orlando, so I know of Winnie Palmer but I dont know what they start new grads out as? If anyone knows any hospitals and what the base pay for new grads is that would be great.
Also what is your opinion on doing med/surg before going into the OB specialty. I realy think that postpartum, labor and delivery is my thing. I really dislike med/surg with great passion and I just know that if I have to do 1-2years of it I will be depressed lol. So any advice would be greatly appreciated.
I have considered moving out of florida because the pay isnt that great I hear, but I have never traveled anywhere out of florida except NY and Georgia for a few days. NY is too hectic and GA I was too young to really remember that. I am thinking that the best thing is to travel to more places until I see somewhere that really makes me want to move so for right now florida it is.
Thanks so much for taking time to read my post and give advice!

I would absolutely recommend 1-2 years of med surg nursing... as an OB nurse, I find it very difficult to get new grads to look outside of the OB box when it comes to nursing... it's not that they can't, it just takes a lot more time to get there with organization and assessment skills. 6 months to 1 year would be better than nothing. Good luck.

Heart of Florida, Haines City. Oseola Regional Kissimmee. Celebration hospital, Celebration. Florida Hospital - several in Orlando, Winter Haven Hospital -Regency Medical Center, Winter Haven, Lakeland Regional Hospital, Lakeland, Baptist Hospital Plant City.
All of these have OB departments. There are also 2 hospitals in Sebring that do OB.
Hope this helps a bit.
