Cedars-Sinai New Grad Summer 2013

Published

Just thought it would be helpful to post a new thread for the upcoming new grad program starting this summer. I've seen the thread for the program last year and wanted to see if anyone was one of the first 250 who applied for it this year. I applied for cohort #1 and got a phone interview last week and the gentleman said that I'd receive an e-mail within 1-2 weeks. I've also heard of people getting rejection emails as well without a phone interview. Anyone have additional info they'd like to share? Good luck to all us new grads out there!

@ alr25 - The application is pretty simple. If you haven't already created a profile on the job website, you can do that ahead of time to save some time when the job is actually posted (it goes away really quickly). If you make it to the phone interview stage and are selected for the first round of in-person interviews, you will put together a portfolio of other things (transcript, reference letters, an essay, etc) for that. No specific units - everyone starts in med-surg (though there are a lot of "med-surg" units).

Anyone that had their interviews today - how did you feel about it? I think mine went well, but honestly - these quick, conference room type interviews are so hard to judge! Just have to wait and see, I guess. At least we don't have to wait too long; sounds like we will hear within a week..

I interviewed today and forgot to ask for a card for the manager I interviewed with. Does anyone know the last name of a manager named -------------- from the oncology unit? Please let me know if you have any idea what he last name may be so I can send a thank you letter. Thanks!

Neenarn, how long did they tell you we should hear by? The women at the front desk said 10 days, but they too said that last time and by the next day we had the email. Hoping we'll find out before the weekend.

I heard 10 days from the front desk, but heard "by Tuesday" from my interviewer. The Tuesday thing makes sense with the way they've been making decisions, and also the fact that the 3rd cohort app opens on Tuesday.. Fingers crossed.

I thought my interview went really well! I was also told within 10 days at the front desk. It seems like people form the first cohort got phone calls within 5-6 days with an offer though.

I got called today to schedule my physical! Yay! Looks like the ball is rolling lol

First cohort- just wondering, do you know what the current pay rate and differentials are? I think I remember seeing $33/hour base in older threads, is it still the same? Thanks!

Hi gastro2012, I am glad to hear that your interview went well too! I was told I would hear within 2 weeks, but the way that they answer so quickly, I would think it'd be sooner!

I am wondering the same thing about the pay and benefits. I remember seeing the same hourly base and wonder if it is the same.

Those of you who were accepted into cohort #1, do you know what unit you are going to be in yet? If so, is it the unit of the manager who interviewed you? Just curious. I really liked the manager who interviewed me and her description of her unit. They all seemed really pleasant and professional.

Is there anyone who did not get accepted into cohort #1 and then surprisingly a month later get called in for an interview for cohort #2??

nurse1728 - No, but that is interesting. How far along in the process for Cohort #1 did you get? Also, did they call you in to the final interviews on 5/22, or for a one-on-one interview on a later date? I was kinda wondering if they might have any "overlap" from cohort to cohort if they have candidates that they like but can't fit in. Of course thinking this because I'm wondering what to do on Tuesday when I still haven't gotten a decision on final interviews from Cohort #2, and the app for #3 opens Tuesday morning... what to do? Apply again since I don't know for sure??

@neenarn I went all the way for cohort #1 but did not get accepted. They even mailed back my portfolio and I did not apply for the following cohort either. 20 days later I get a call to come in on 5/22 interviews, which were same interviews qs as final round interview for cohort 1. I was confused bc she told me I got one more to go. Just curious if anyone else was in the same situation. Was that the final interview round for you?
