CCRN preparation

Hi all,

I am planning on taking my CCRN in late May and just purchased Laura Gasparis's 2 day DVD. I will be purchasing the PASS CCRRN book as well...just wondering if any one knows if these 2 materials have questions/materials related to synergy model for patient care? I read on the AACN website that some questions will pertain to this. Thank you for your time!

The synergy model is more of a way of life to all CCRNs than simply just a model. In order to adequately understand the synergy model, one needs to invest ample time into synching up Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" album along with the first 30 minutes or so of "The Wizard of Oz" and watching it on repeat, for at least 5 hours a day, a week before test day. When the song "Money" comes on and Dorothy is walking into Munchkinland, one of the munchkins in the background actually recites the levels of expertise for the continuum of Systems Thinking.

Just kidding. I just passed the CCRN earlier this month and really have no clue what the synergy model is. I think it's something about understanding the patient in terms other than their medical diagnosis, but really I have no idea. Perhaps there were questions related to it, but probably they were really obvious, or maybe they fell into the category of the 25 untested questions.

At any rate, I wouldn't get too involved in thinking about it. Better to study up on the basics, especially cardiac and pulmonary, and review areas where you are particularly lacking. Laura Gasparis, at least in the DVDs I used (circa 2004), did not cover the synergy model other than mentioning it briefly in the first 15 minutes and specifically stating that she does not teach it, probably because any test questions will be simple common sense. I did not really use the Pass CCRN book but extensively utilized the accompanying CD for practice exams, I already can't recall if they specifically tested on the synergy model, but I'm certain you will get most, if not all, of the test preparation you need from watching/taking detailed notes on Gasparis's DVDs and taking many practice exams/reviewing answer rationales, from the Pass CCRN cd. I did mention in another reply to a similar thread that Gasparis (at least in her 2004 DVDS) does not seem to cover on neuro quite so much as is covered in the test, at least the test I got, so that might deserve some extra reading from the book.
