CCRN for Oncology RN??

I work in a Acute Medical Oncology Unit with an wide range of sick cancer/ random medical patients. Although I am not in the ICU I feel that I use a lot of critical care type thinking because our patients are so sick (and we have a small er/icu so many of the "icu pts" get diverted to us as long as they aren't in need of vent/ constant monitor, etc). I think that I might technically be able to register/ take the exam, I want to see if there are any other oncology/ medical nurses that have taken the CCRN exam without actual ICU experience.

I don't think you'd be able to register unless you actually did things like vents, monitoring, cardiac drips, insulin drips, etc on your floor.

My floor is considered critical care, and we only get those things occassionally, but I guess we get them enough.

Actually Blondy2061h you seem very knowledgable so I am going to ask you what I posted under another oncology post that nobody has answered. Do you use double lumen & triple lumen hickmans on your unit and hepsaline lock them when they are not in use.

Yes, we use double and triple lumen hickmans. We don't use heparin at all for central lines (just IVADs). If we're not using a lumen, we just flush with saline and clamp it. You have to make sure you follow your own hospital's policy, though, as it can vary.
