CCNE vs WASC accreditations

Published

Hi everyone

I recently got accepted into CSU San Marcos ABSN program. After doing some research, i saw that the school is only ccne accredited.

My question is, will that put me at a disadvantage later on if I decide to pursue a masters degree? Also, will it affect me in any way when I want to find a job?

I'm not really sure which accreditation is higher, I'm assuming the wasc. I'm still trying to do more research on this before making my decision, so any insight will be appreciated. Thank you!

There is a lot of confusion about accreditation in nursing programs. CCNE is national, nursing-specific accreditation. WASC is general academic accreditation of the entire school, not the nursing program. Neither is "higher" than the other, since they are unrelated to each other. The school has both CCNE and WASC accreditation, and that's good, that's what you want to see. You are in good shape there, accreditation-wise. :)

elkpark, thank you so much for the quick response. So CSUSM (the accelerated program) is accredited by both? All I was able to find was their CCNE

Yes, it is accredited by both CCNE and Western Association of Schools & College (WASC) here is the link

Hi I have searching for Nursing Schools that are ACEN or CCNE. I found West Coast University. It offers WSCUC accreditation, is that the same as a ACEN or CCNE ?

It is not the same. ACEN and CCNE are specific to just nursing programs. WSCUC is a regional accreditation that looks at a college/university overall quality without specifically looking at nursing.

A school can have regional accreditation while the nursing program offered by that school also has programmatic accreditation through ACEN or CCNE.
