Hi- I am applying in Sept. 2013 for CCBC RN program. Not sure what the schedules are like for the online vs day program. (I realize the space is very limited for for the online program but am hoping to still have a 4.0 at application time, so I may go for it) I am wondering if this program allows a lot more flexibility. I realize I will have to be on campus for labs and I will be in the field for clinical study. Anyone here who has done either the online or the day program, please share what your schedule was like.
Also I am just about equidistant from Essex and Catonsville. Is there any advantage to one campus over the other for nursing.

I just recently found out about the program and am seriously considering applying. I am a bit apprehensive though because I don't know anyone who's ever gone there or many details about the program. I have all the prereq. done, but have not taken the TEAS, which terrifies me because I graduated from high school years ago. I completed the CMA program at AACC and did fine, but I haven't studied math, chemistry, etc.... since high school. I have to hurry up and get my transcripts sent in along with taking the test, but I would really appreciate it if someone had any information or experience about the nursing program, especially the hybrid, but anything about the nursing program would help. I would also love to talk to you since we may end up in the same class (if I get accepted of course!)
Hi SuzyQ- did you ever decide if you are going to apply? I decided to apply to the online/hybrid as well as the essex day program. I am pretty sure I will get into essex day but the online program is more selective. I take the TEAS this summer. Am halfway through a&p1 and micro now.
How long ago did you take anatomy 1 & 2 and micro? You should meet with an advisor at one of the campuses- they are really helpful.

Has anyone else had an experience with the online/hybrid program in 2015? I have a friend who is graduating from the online hybrid program this year and she keeps telling me not to do it because her and her classmates felt like they did not get a solid education, and the teachers were much harder on them, yet were not as involved with helping them as they would the day/evening programs. I also heard that they temporarily shut down the hybrid program because so many people were not passing their NCLEX or they just dropped out. Anyone else have input?

I will be graduating from CCBC's online hybrid program in a few weeks. I have to say that it was TERRIBLE! The online program was VERY disorganized, and many people dropped out with plans on applying to the day or evening/weekend program instead. The main problem was the actual program itself. The teachers were ok, but the design of the program did not seem to teach us what we needed to know. I think I had an advantage because I had gone half way through a nursing program in another state before dropping out and starting over in this program (had to drop out to move to Maryland for my wife). They actually shut this program down for a while due to so many problems with it. We even saw other face-to-face CCBC students occasionally, and they seemed like they were LIGHTYEARS ahead of us. Do yourself a favor, go face-to-face.

I made it eight months into the CCBC Catonsville online program, and I had da quit it. I'll say this, if you are working, dis is NOT the program for you. I went for da online program thinking it'd be better because I work part time two days a week, but my schedule varied. I think the online program is way harder cause you gotta figure it out on your own, and that takes longer than if you just raise your hand and ask a teacher. Their response times to da questions were very slow online. The clinical days kept changing with each class, and they had them ALL day, so don't think you can take just take online course. NO, you have to take in person clinicals on random days, so it makes it hard for working people! I just don't see a point to an online nursing program. Most of da people in our class dropped out. I think they were left with 4 or 5 people graduating! Thats over 3/4 of the class that dropped out.
I went to University of MD instead, and its way better. They have a part time option dat makes it easier if your working, plus its a Bachelor's, which most of da hospitals prefer anyway.
Wow I had no idea it was that bad. I also had two people who are in my Summer A&P 2 class tell me not to do it because its so bad. Howard community college has an evening program that seems less competitive than CCBC's evening program, I think I might apply the both CCBC's evening and Howard's evening. The online program is just bad reviews all the way

I attended the hybrid program for about 4 month before I decided it was too much for me. I disagree that the teachers are bad, they are the same teachers as the regular programs. I left because I have a child and a job, and the schedule was too much. I did go back the next year and applied for the online program again, but didn't get in (Its extremely competitive, and I applied back too soon). I ended up doing the evening program the following fall, which was a lot easier on my schedule. If you go for the online, don't have anything else going on in your life. Like not kids, no job, no home drama :) They also tell you when you go to orientation to never make any big changes in your life. This is especially true in the online because any changes will distract you at home. Girl you do not need a new screaming baby distracting you from your online studies, and that man had better learn that his drama can wait until your done your 8 hours of online work every day!
As for campus differences, I think Catonsville is crowded. Essex seems like parking is worse, but they have all new science building and new features. It seems friendlier for some reason, and I think the science teachers there get better reviews on rate my professor.
