I finally got my acceptance letter! :thankya:I'll be attending the Boyce campus. I know if I got my acceptance letter today, then other CCAC students have as well. Share the good news!:D:yeah::w00t::balloons::balloons:

My child abuse clearances came on Friday too; I'm still waiting for the criminal one. I'm getting my drug test done tomorrow and next week I'll get the physical. It would great to see more CCAC students on allnurses!

I was not at the registration but I know some of the people that were there, they are wonderful. Enjoy your summer, once the fall comes, there will be very little free time.

My child abuse clearance took the longest of everything. I am attending North campus in the fall, clinicals will be Fridays too. I have heard that CCAC is hard--but aren't all nursing programs? I made sure all my co-requisites were completed so I can concentrate on nursing classes only. I would suggest this to everyone. Reason being, if you would not pass any of them, you can't proceed with the program. Is anyone taking the drug calc class in July? I am because I'm not very good at math. I too went to the health department for Tb test and shots..the doctors will charge out the ass for them. It's not that long a wait at the achd--not as bad as I thought it would be, and I got the results of my titres in two weeks. I'm doing my CPR at Berkely Hills FD. They are only 25 dollars and it's a two hour class. Looking forward to starting. Good luck everyoen!

There's a drug calc class being offered at Boyce in August, but it's only for 1 day! I'm still waiting for my criminal clearances and on Tuesday I'm just going to turn in whatever I have. There's no point in waiting until the last minute to turn in everything! I also purchased half of my books off of amazon and got my stethosope, pen light, and scissors from allheart.

I'm going to the one at North, it's 3 nights. I got everything too except a light-I have all my clearances back, have my physical on Wednesday, need 2nd Hep B shot on the 22nd, and I should be all set. I'm excited and a little nervous about starting. Do you have a Wednesday Lab? Did you get your uniforms yet? Mine came a couple weeks ago.

How long did it take you to get your criminal clearances? I mailed mine in early May and I'm still waiting! I got my uniform yesterday- only 1 set though. What type of shoes are you getting? Do you think an all white pair of Adidas Superstar tennis shoes would be acceptable? Those are the only shoes comfortable on my feet! I have pretty big feet and the typical nursing tennis shoes just aren't good enough.Today I'm going to go to campus and turn in what I have so far. I'm hoping they accept the physical form my doctor filled out; she didn't do a thorough job filling it out.

The fingerprints came back within a week, the child abuse clearance took weeks. Pennsylvania background check is done online-if you have no record, you just print the report. They won't mail one. I got Danskos--they are supposed to be super comfy. I called school and asked about the shoes. They specifically said no tennis shoes. They must be all white nursing shoes with no logo of any kind. (except for maybe the little heart on Nursemates.) Danskos are 115.00 but I was told it was worth it. We'll see I guess because I have never spent that much on a pair of shoes in my life! I'm getting my physical today.

I've been reading some other posts about CCAC compared to hospital schools and I'm a little nervous. (especially after registration--was that a joke or what?) I have heard that our clinicals aren't as good, and that the hospitals treat us as an annoyance---and I have seen that first hand. When my daughter delivered her baby in March, there were two different CCAC students there. The nurses didn't even speak to them. When the second one came in she stood by the door. By this time, my daughter was pushing. I noticed her CCAC logo, so I told her to "come on over here where you can see something!" which seemed to make her a little more comfortable, but you could see she felt out of place. I sure hope it isn't like that for us. I think clinicals are going to be hard enough without people making us feel like we don't belong.

I finally got my criminal clearances! For future reference I'll remember to get them done online.

I've read those posts about CCAC vs. hospital schools too. In fact, I work at a hospital and I noticed how staff would interact with students from CCAC and Carlow. The CCAC groups were larger, probably around 10. They did morning care, dressing changes, and gave medications. Then they had their group meeting with the instructor. Some of the nurses liked the students- we nursing assistants sure did!- while other nurses said the students were just in the way and didn't care too much for the instructors. One nurse said the students didn't do anything. I don't know what she expected them to do, but they were juniors. Sometimes a CCAC student and a student from another school were paired up with 1 nurse. I would be uncomfortable in a situation like that because both of the students could be on different levels or perhaps the one student will be given more attention than the other. The Carlow students were treated better IMO and I'm not sure if it was because there were fewer of them or because the school is right in Oakland and staff is used to seeing them. But I"ve heard from a couple Carlow students they didn't have good clinicals either. But I agree that diploma students have more of an advantage since they're associated with a hospital. I've talked too many students who are taking pre-reqs at at CCAC but doing the nursing program at Shadyside, West Penn, St. Margaret's or Mercy. I work with several nurses who went to CCAC and they praise the school, but at the same time I've heard that the quality is different among the campuses, with South being the best. Hopefully, we will have good clinical experiences but I plan to be more assertive.

I guess we're about to find out first hand aren't we? Glad you got your clearances!

For some reason I can't send private messages--so I hope you get this. At the ACHD the tb test is free, but we need the 2 part so you have to go get it done, (they don't do them on Thursday) go back two days later, wait ten days but no more than 21 days and go back and do it all again. I was in and out every time I've gone. They get crowded,, but they move them in and out pretty quickly. Sorry to hear you've had so much bs to deal with--hopefully you'll get it all worked out in time. Let me know what happens. If you want you can email me at [email protected] and i will be able to reply to you there. Good luck!

Well, it looks like I won't complete the 2-step test until July 19! That's past the deadline, but I have most of my things turned in. I'll have to call the school and see what they say. I got my uniform today and I tried it on. I look great it in! Every thing is navy blue except for the white lab coat. I'm still looking for decent shoes. I wish I could wear a pair of plain white Adidas superstar shoes- those are REALLY comfortable!
