Cath Lab CNA

Published

Hi there,

I just graduated with a bachelor's degree and am applying to nursing school, but until I start nursing school I need some income.

I've worked as a CNA before in Long Term Care for a couple of years but I want to move on and work at a hospital to gain some different experience. I just got an interview at a really nice hospital (where I volunteer) in their Cath Lab. The supervisor who called me for the "interview" (she said I would mostly be shadowing to see what it's like to work in this environment) said that it's a CNA/lab tech position but they train CNA's on their specific duties as lab techs.

I'm wondering if any of you out there have worked as a CNA in a similar position, ideally in a Cath lab and could let me know what to expect for my "interview."

Thanks so much!

It's similar to a regular CNA job, vitals, ADL's, etc, and you'll do all those tasks but also other things focusing on Cardiac Caths. You'll do many EKG's and prepare, clip, and wash the patients for their cardiac catheterization procedures with chlorhexidine scrub sponges.

For the interview, come prepared with your résumé, references, and copies of any certifications/licenses you have. Be prepared to answer questions. You can Google examples of CNA interview questions and practice your answers beforehand. Dress appropriately and professionally, and be early. Some hospitals have written tests they give you at the interview. Been there. Boy was I nervous, but it was easy if you know your stuff.

Its a good unit to work on before you become a nurse. Best of luck. Let us know how it goes.

Thank you that was extremely helpful! (:
