Catagory A CEU?

Published

I just got my LPN renewal letter. This will be my first full renewal that I need CEU's. It looks like they changed the CEU requirements though and only audit select people to see if they did them from my understanding? I'm not worried as I have plenty from my PRN job's monthly requirements, but I don't think I have the 1 hour for the nursing rules and regs requirement. Should I worry about this or wait and see if they audit me? I guess I could go ahead and get it just in case, but I can't seem to find where to get it at. You guys have any ideas where to go to get it?

New Nurse - So basically you just keep proof that you completed the CEU's?

You do not need to send it in to the Board of Nursing?

What is adequate proof - a certificate print out?

That's correct, I believe you only send it in if they audit you. I would think a certificate print out would be sufficient if they do. I have plenty CEU's right now. I just need the category A one hour course "just in case". I actually just got a new issue of the CME Resource book for Ohio nurses and it has the nurse practice act in there. So I guess I'll just do that one and see if it goes through.

Thanks!

What is the Category A? Is that a requirement in all states?

I think its only for Ohio, on my renewal it says "one hour requirement directly related to laws and rules governing the practice of nursing in Ohio". That's in addition to the 24 contact hours needed if you got your license before Sep. 1 2009. It looks like you don't even send them in though as they will audit randomly, but you can also do a one time waiver too. Mine is all set for this year I think. The one hour law only took me about 20 minutes and was pretty easy.
