Career Point College/LVN Program/ San Antonio, TX

Published

Hs any one attended Career Point College/ LVN Program in San Antonio, TX. I know that they are accreddited through the TXBON, but I wanted to get some info on the evening/weekend class. I am looking into this program and would like some feedback on this school for the LVN Evening Class.... Your comments and thoughts on this school would be greately beneficial to me... Thanks

The clinicals are mostly at nursing homes at first then you may go to a hospital. The hours are either between 6-7 in the morning to 6-7 in the evening or depending on the instructor. You may get lucky :)

Specializes in Psych, LTC/SNF, Rehab, Corrections.

The school bought some space in the Crossroads Mall (park in the garage beneath the hobby lobby; it's the first entrance on the right after you walk through the glass doors.)and that's where their Nursing site is located.

Thank God...because, although they have good NCLEX passrates and their medical program is the only thing that I'd touch at that school (sorry, I have my biases), the eyesore that is that main building just put me off.

I worried about the resources.

But, it is money well spent. They don't take you on the tour UNTIL you've passed the tests, interviewed with the Director AND attended your fin aid appointment. I thought the place was nice, though.

The instructors? A healthy mix of majority RNs (mostly BSN with diploma and adn sprinkled in). 2 MSN's. 3 LVNS and 1 PHD (the director who appears to also be an instructor).

There is one Rn, CRRN.

One DNS, RN

...and one RN, MSN, WHNOP.

Alphabet soup!

Anyway, they've been at this site for about 4 months, as I was told by my counselor.

I *think* you're supposed to go there instead of the main building and apply.

I'm a recent graduate of the LVN Program @ Career Point College. I was in the day program. I must say lots of people transferred from night class to day class simply because they wanted to finish faster. The ATI program is what prepares you for NCLEX. Career Point has the highest pass rate in Texas for passing NCLEX on the first try. I started in Aug of 2013. Last day of class was Aug 15, 2014. I pinned on August 22. I tested for NCLEX on Sept. 18, 2014. I got my "quick results" (pay $7.95, wait 48 hours) and I PASSED ON THE FIRST TRY. Two days later, my nursing license was issued. One week later, I was hired as a pediatric home health nurse. With any school, you get out of it what YOU PUT IN IT. Most hospitals, agency, etc. don't care WHERE you got your education. As long as you can show you can commit to a school and pass the NCLEX is all they care about. I must say it was NOT EASY. The day program is an accelerated program. Luckily, I had all A's and B's when I finished. I didn't have a social life and didn't spend time with my husband and five kids like I used to. I sacrificed a lot to become a nurse. Next Friday, I graduate in my white cap and gown. I'm so proud of myself. I'm going to 42 years old and was able to accomplish my dream. I'm going to keep going for my RN and plan to enroll in online classes at Galen. So far, all but 2 people out of 26 students did not pass NCLEX. The school gave me a $500 bonus for passing NCLEX on first try and knocked off $500 of my tuition (because I have a private loan). If you don't have a private loan, you get $1,000 bonus. For the record, I'm not a school rep. I'm an actual student. You can find me and all my classmates on FB. Hope all this helps.

Saturday clinical for night class is 12 hours. From 6 to 6. Day classes are different and only for 8 hours. First rotation was 3 clinicals a week. After that, it was two clinicals a week. You get to go to a hospital if you are in the Top 10 after completing Med Surg I. Career Point is NOT on Spencer Lane. That is their "high school" program for diploma, etc. Career Point is leasing an entire floor at Crossroads Mall, which is where I went. There is lunchroom with vending machines. There is a computer/resource room. The director right now is new to Career Point. There is also a new Career Point in Austin, so the school is definitely moving on up. Yes, it's a "for profit" school, but I must say I'm very happy.

So you are a certified LVN? Is that what you got at career point? I know career point has a RN bridge program that's why I was asking if you got your LVN or RN with career point. Did you have any college classes that were transfer credits and did they accept then ?

My name is lisa. How long is the rn program at career point college

Thanks for sharing your experience, I'm starting the lvn program next month at career point. I was on here looking for feedback on what to expect. I'm going in full time and I'm really worried about balancing getting my daughter to school and making it to clinical on time. Do you know what time are day clinicals? Your post is very helpful and congrats!!

Hi I'm also considering career point because of their pass rate I've done a lot of research and their school is the highest in San Antonio. My only concern is was it difficult finding a job after graduation? I've read a lot of negative comments on other sites that's the reason I've been prolonging my decision.... Thanks any feedback is greatly appreciated.
