Hi,

I'm 54 year old male thinking about a career change to nursing?

Educational Background: Math BS, Graduate level courses in Education.

Employment History: Last 20-25 yrs in IT on Wall St.

First question would age be a consideration w/respect to nursing school admission?

Thanks,

You'll do great! Nursing is hands on patient care. Meaning, you have to be on your feet, moving patients & dealing with body fluids. So, physically you have to be up to it. But it's very rewarding & exciting, esp. if you're in ER or ICU.

Is it possible to start a nursing career at a relatively late age? Absolutely yes! You'll see lots of stories of exactly that here.

Now the next question... is it worth it to you to invest your time and money and energy into to? Given the background info you provided, it would be a big change from your previous experience.

You'll see lots of pros and cons of nursing here. As Interleukin noted, don't just rely on those hype articles about nursing. Dig deeper. Read more here. Find nurses to talk to. Volunteer on hospital unit. Etc. And if you decide that nursing's for you, go for it!

Do what your heart tells you. There are many non-traditional students in nursing. Also your BS can be a steppingstone into an accelerated nursing program.
