Here in WA state all our cardiac floors have CNAs! They do basically the same things they would on other floors...take vitals, clean patients, get things for patients, weight patients, and whatever else comes along. Most aides I've met love working on cardiac floors because they, like the nurses, become good at focusing on cardiac issues and looking for certain changes in the patient.
I work on a tele unit as a CNA, working on my RN. It is much better than LTC work, IMHO. The people are REALLY sick and there is much more to learn, medically. The RNs are extremely generous with their time and expertise. We just got CNAs into our ER, too. :)I am starting a CNA class in Aug. and plan on starting nursing school in Jan. I think I'm interested in cardiac nursing and would like to see what it's like. Do CNA's work on cardiac floors and if they do what do they do? The only info I can find on CNA is in LTC or nursing homes. Thanks for the info.
I work on a cardiac step down unit and we employ CNAs on our floor. They are invaluable to us. They take vital signs, do blood sugars, weigh patients, personal care, remove IVs and Foleys, change batteries on the tele boxes and put tele leads back on. We have a couple who are going to nursing school. And we will need them when they get done with school.
Good luck with your schooling.
