Cant stop thinking about it

I've been bitten by the CRNA bug and cannot get it off my mind. It's been my dream since I was in my 2nd semester if my 2d RN program and did my day in the OR.

I understand-through research- the requirements needed to apply. I've gone through what it would take for me to accomplish them and have realized it is possible(as my gpa isn't trashed too bad) what I am curious is of y'all's opinion of my odds.

SRNA, current CRNA or anybody currently going through the application process please feel free to chime in, any contribution is helpful

I have almost 190hours of college work under my belt. This includes a year of LPN classes( which I'm unsure if it will be calculated into gpa because it isn't an actual degree) I will be graduating with my first degree from an ADN program in December with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. I will have a 3.15 "degree" gpa for my ADN. I made b's in chem, a/p 1&2, micro, and biology.

I will then get my bachelors online, maintaining a 4.0, an working in Memphis at the med- the highest acuity ICU within 200miles. I will get all certs required during that time as well

My gpa is what worries me. I'm so lost as to how schools calculate the gpa's. Some say they use last 60 hours, some say cumulative, some say the put emphasis on science grades and previous nursing school grades.

In your opinion, how do I fair compared to the "general" applicant?

I'm 24,married to an OR nurse who wants kids. I can only put that off for so long and don't want to wait until I'm 30 because I held out for Anesthesia school, then realize it was all for nothing....

You can do it man! I was 21 when i started nursing school and decided that CRNA was what i was going to work toward. Heck, i figured even if i didn't make it i would still have a great career as a nurse. 5 years later now and I'll be starting anesthesia school this fall. During that time, i grew up a whole lot, ended up getting married, and had a baby too. You can do it if i can trust me. Keep your eyes on the prize. It won't be an easy path, but you'll will get there! Take everything one day at time.

Good Luck!

Much appreciated folks. I've been trying to contact some schools recently and can NEVER seem to get anyone on the phone. Understandable seeing as they probably lecture but I just need to know EXACTLY how they configure gpa's so I can start taking classes now to correct what needs to be done. I've read some people mention talking to adcom's. is that some one I can ask to speak to directly?? Would they be willing to give out detailed information regarding admissions?

Thanks for the encouragement. I really need it right now with my last OB test Monday, final Wednesday, and two mid terms tuesday

some schools will also either post or give out what the averages were for demographics on their last class - gpa, years experience, etc.

Let your interactions now with schools give you a feel for how that school sees their students. Also do everything you can to talk to a current student or recent graduate.

good luck!

I'm going in with 3 kids this fall!
