Can't get motivated

when I get discouraged, and lose focus, I have to mentally ppicture myself in my dream job (l&d) its almost a state of hypnosis lol. i literally put myself there mentally until I get back to that place where i REALLY want it and i am willing to do anything to get there. Good luck you will make it

Go ahead and register and schedule that first exam. Then meet the deadline just like it was a bill. I treated all of those exams like that and I managed to get through them all in 2 1/2 months by digging in and testing every two weeks because I knew that my attention span was not gonna allow me to remain in anybody's program for a year. Just the thought of knowing that YOU control how long it takes you instead of some instructor should be all the motivation that you need. This is YOUR college experience.....you can savor the moment or you can GET IN AND GET OUT. Once you get into it, you will hear that phrase A LOT from fellow EC students. But the only way to finish is to start. Trust me when I tell you that going through Excelsior College is definitely not bad at all. In fact, it was a wonderful experience for me and I'd been an LPN for over 20 years when I enrolled back in 2009. You will make lifelong friends there that you will probably never meet. But they, WE, are there. And here; you'd be surprised where you will find your EC people. So, c'mon and get the lead out. It was August 2009 when I took my first EC exam and it was April 16, 2010 when I received my diploma. So let's go, Dave, YOU WILL DO THIS! :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

When you decide you want it bad enough you'll get it done, at least that was the case for me. It always helped me to go ahead and schedule an exam so I'd have a target date to work toward. There were a few times I'd reschedule and give myself another week or two to study but it all worked out OK.

You'll get back in the groove. I bought all my study material in 2004 or 2005 and am just now getting ready for CPNE.

Dave, I agree with Lynda (as I usually do, hahaha) ... schedule the exams. That was how I kept myself on track -- I work best with deadlines!

I usually do the math, to get myself motivated. There is the actual math of what your pay could be, an estimated starting payrate x 40hours.

I, also, do what I think of as "life math". For example, if I take 6 months + take a test each month + save $50 each week (it's all good, because I love beans and rice), I'll have the tests finished and a $1300 saved toward the CPNE. Then, subtract long commute and add work closer to home = better life by the end of next year.

Dream a little and plan a lot! :)
