Can't Contact BRN (my analyst)

Published

has anyone here had the chance to talk to their analyst regarding the denied application that requires us to go back to school for the deficiencies? .. I wanted to tell my analyst that theres no school offering that anymore the last one that offers that here in socal is saddleback college in irvine but I tried calling them and they told me they closed it and not accepting no more and they still have a long list of students waiting. I tried giving BRN a call and but then they are not accepting calls =.= atm... i called like 20x and transfer me to an automated voice that says " due to a large volume of calls we are not accepting calls at the moment" *sigh* .... I was gonna ask my analyst if she can give me another option, obviously theres no school offers that (as i had read here in too ) but I guess the last school I called ended up not offering anymore.. :(

This is the very harsh reality that's going to be facing us Phils grads and nurses in CA for many many years to come. The thing is these schools do in fact offer the courses, but let's us all remember, it's not up to the CA BON or their responsibilty other than to direct where we can go with their approved list of colleges that meets the needed deficiencies.

Any required deficient courses can NOT be made up by going back to Phils, as it's too late, since the requirement is that it must be done PRIOR to getting our BSN. The CA BON needs to control the documentation after the graduation since there have been reported and documented cases of many PH students or nurses submitting false documentations coming from PH.

So the control factor is the deficient courses must be taken in and from an approved CA school, where the CA BON knows of its program.

There are available courses, but remember, that each college is very limited in its budgets, whereby they need to hire new staff or instructor, find enough hospitals AND preceptor-nurse so that each student can shadow as a regular requirement for any CA student. The schools simply don't have the money or manpower to accomodate any foreign students as the top priority remains for only their regular enrolled paying tuition students. The available courses are open but it's very limited (1-2 spots), thus, subject to available space and others may have a waiting list and you can bet, it will fill up fast and immediate. So by the time, one calls, of course, it's "closed" or not longer offered, etc. Just bad timing.

Don't forget there are other foreign students also needing classes and while it may not be MS/OB or psych or whatever, once a space opens up, it goes to the lucky person.

Those trying to remain in CA to become an RN (coming in from Phils) at this present time, that door has been closing since Nov. 2011. One can certainly try but just know the chances of getting an ATT is very slim at best and those failing the NCLEX-RN earlier and having to re-apply are also getting their application denied due to the concurrency or after another review lacking in a class or not enough clinical hours.

The other option of going after the LVN exam --NCLEX-PN then trying to get into a LVN-RN bridge is most sought after now for those being rejected by the CA BON. But also know the LVN-RN bridge brings another set of issues: the extreme competition, the extra bits of needed requirements and the cost (if private school is the only choice) and or the few years's waiting list (for the less expensive community and regular colleges).

The other option is to go to a different state not enforcing the concurrency rules, but just know that to endorse any out of state RN license is no guarantee to get it approved back into CA, as the same college transcripts that denied one's application will also simply get rejected again and no CA license to be had.

The upsetting thing is that the PH dean's have known about this problem for years and yet, stood with their hands like "what's up?" and simply ignored the problem and now it's come to smack them in the faces as many PH college and the Deans' and their assistants and their secretaries are totally frustrated with having to help out their fellow students with the paperwork by delaying the return requests, losing the paperwork or CA forms, etc. This is evident not only by several current posters here in these forums (World Tab-Nurse Registration section) but by many e-mails I get from my batchmates and their friends).

Oh my ! , I honestly dont know what to do, yea I applied for LVN exam they gave me a yellow paper ( declaration of nursing education form) I am still about to submit it back to them next week but I am worried with getting my RN license the most because like the others if ever I pass this LVN exam, still chances of getting the job is slim because Iv been hearing from my husband and inlaws who works in the hospital that they are taking out LVN , kaiser have their LVNs in clinic only now, so if getting this LVN license is still another route it wouldnt be as secure as RN :( its really frustrating, I plan to go back to redo everything if its the only choice, but I do not know if its worth going back............ or not?

You can still get a job in a skilled nursing facility for now while waiting to be eligible In RN exam.I got denied by CA BRN too but I applied for LVN then I passed my exam and got a license already. Now I'm working in a SNF.

Too true. Any job = have money = bills paid... much better than no job = bills unpaid.

To the OP, you need to have a back-up plan while you wait out the classes for the RN. That's the reality.

Good luck!

i agree!!!!! we gotta take chances, we are here no backing out, lets just face whats in our plate, lets not

over think and just do what we gotta do. if you decide lvn or study again up to you, whats there to fear? you did nursing school once you sure can do it again. life is not easy so lets get back up and do it now!

i would rather do something than do nothing and just wait for the rain to pour on this drought! have a lil faith. we all deserve a better day God bless us all:)

Dont even bother to talk to upur analyts. They are rude and impossible to work with. They will just tell you that it is your job to find schools. Oh dont even think about going back to the philippines to redo the course. It will not be accredited with ca brn. Read some of the posts here, you will see that there are many people who are in the same boat as you.

Mount st. Mary is offering classes, but theres a 3 year waitlist and some sorts of requirements before getting in the waitlist. Totally not worth the time.

Loma linda university is also offering a small program for deficiencies, but there is a 3 year waitlist, and its closed for now.
