hello everyone, i'm new here to this website. i'm a pre nursing student and i am having a hard time with the requirements to get in to nursing school. i've done all the chemistry and biology but i have many repeats. the nursing school meetings i've went to say they look down on people who have alot of repeats. nursing is all i've ever wanted to do since i was young. i have alot of family who are nurses. but i'm struggling. is nursing really for me if i cant even do the pre-requirements to get in to nursing school?

i'm really scared. i dont know what to think. can anyone offer advice?

How do you define "many" repeats? Like how many?? And why do you think you are having to repeat them? Not enough time to study? Studying and still not doing well? Not understanding the material??? It depends on the reason. YOu have to be very determined and dedicated to get through nursing school. When you say you have many repeats, to me that sounds like you have not been determined enough to do well in the class. But maybe you have other circumstances. That being said, nursing school for me is more challenging than the pre requisites. Not necessarily the subject matter but the sheer volume of work to be done. You have to be VERY organized with your time, put aside time to study and do work, be willing to make many sacrifices. It it not easy in any way but it can be done and you don't have to be a straight A student to get through nursing school. You need to figure out why you are not passing and what you can do to remedy the situation so that you can pass your classes the first time and prepare yourself for nursing school.

what do you mean by "repeat"? i would have told you a long time ago that rather than take a failing grade in a class to drop it before the cut off date for the grade to even get on your transcript.

if your gpa is that bad, then start going into nursing through an lpn program. once you are a licensed lpn then you can try getting into an rn program through an lpn to rn bridge program. or, i would just start over at another school and not reveal that i had attended the school where i had bad grades.

it sounds like part of your problem may be that you just have not mastered the skill of how to study. and, it is a skill. there are links to lots of information on study skills on the weblinks on this thread of allnurses.

of course, you have to seriously pursue this. not all study techniques work for everyone. you have to try different ones to find the techniques that will work best for you. motivation has a lot to do with it. i also used supplemental textbooks to help explain concepts that i wasn't understanding in the textbook the instructor was using or the material i wasn't understanding in lectures. but, you have to take the initiative to do that. no one is going to take you by the hand and tell/guide you in doing it. and, today, you can find more information about subjects on the internet that wasn't available years ago. reading another author's take on a subject sometimes turns a lightbub of understanding on in our brains that the instructor wasn't able to. learning is our responsibility, not the instructors. the instructor is only there to help show us the way. even then, some instructors are not so good at it. as the years have gone on and i have developed mastery at studying i have found that many textbooks were very well organized even if my instructors weren't. learning is more than just memorizing the material as you will learn when you get into nursing classes. it involves understanding it as well.

yeah i had to repeat my science classes and it was my study technique. i sucked at studying! when i realized that, i got focused and i got A's and B's. but now that i have improved my grades....the nursing school still sees that i have repeated courses. the nursing school dont want to take people who had to repeat a lot courses because they want to make sure the person will be able to make it in nursing school. they want to see my dedication. i messed up but i have improved a lot. i hope they can look pass the fact that i had to retake courses. i could not drop classes because it would have effected my fasa.

thanks for the idea of starting over at a new school. if the nursing schools i apply to dont accept me i will either start over or go through a LPn program.
