Hey guys......i just stumbled on to this web site by accident and by reading other peoples questions and answers i realized this was no accident at all!!!....im stuck...Im attending Laguardia CC and im in the pre nursing stage...one semester away from applying for candidacy...but the rumors im hearing about denials and waiting lists are killing me...is it really that bad?...and if im denied what are my options...what are some good nursing schools?...and is there such a school that has no line, no waiting lists.........i have a fear of failing which is natural, thats not my problem...my problem is that it sounds like all the odds are against me...350 applicants and 77 seats?...r they serious?

help please!

Welcome to Allnurses! I moved your post to the New York Nurses Forum so that you get the best responses. Good luck in your studies!

I did my prerequisite nursing courses at LaGuardia. I realized after assessing several hundred students competing for 50-60 seats, that unless I had a 4.0 GPA, I had to formulate a plan. It was the smartest thing I did. I was not sad and teary when they gave out the rejection letters at Laguardia because I got a spot somewhere else first.

I applied to two private nursing schools (which cost is only $7,000 above the City college costs, after prerequisites are completed at a CUNY school). I am presently in my final semester at a private school. The majority of NYC nursing programs will transfer your credits for the prerequisites.

If your GPA is 3.8 or above for the core prerequisites, you may get a spot there. Of course, you will not find this out until late June or July (which is over one month after when the private schools give out their acceptance letters).

I would highly recommend applying to other schools and getting the applications in as soon as possible.

Good luck.

My clinical instructor also teaches at Laquardia and has expressed this concern. I'm sorry to say what the previous poster wrote is 100 percent correct. Please try to get into a private school.
