Canadians doing Accel. BSN in US??? How to finance?!?

Hi. Just wondering if there are any Canadians here in the US doing accel. BSN. I'm currently already studying in the US, but I am not satisfied with my program, and want to go into nursing. However, I don't have much money and the accel. BSN programs cost a lot here in PA. So, if you're currently in an accel. BSN in the US, can you please tell me how you financed your education? Thanks!

Hi ASYL!

I'm not in an accelerated BSN program, but I am a Canadian in a ADN program here in Buffalo, N.Y. I go to a community college, which costs about $3,000 U.S. per semester. If all goes well, I'll graduate after 5 semesters, at a total cost of $15,000 plus books. I plan to work in the U.S. after graduation, and will likely pursue a BSN while I am working.

As far as financing goes, I sold some investments that are paying my way for the next three years. The ADN program is the fastest, easiest and cheapest way to become an RN if you want to work in the U.S. after graduation.

PM me if I can be of any further help.

Good luck!!

Hey! Good luck with school!

I am from Quebec working at MFH ICU Buffalo and may consider going back in Canada one day but never worked there as a RN.

Got my degree here. I am wondering how independant they are in Canada, you know here we are pretty free. :balloons:

Anyone can compare?

Some hospitals have programs that offer a lot of support for future nurses - in our hospital in Corpus Christi, there's a program that lets you go to school full time and in return, you work 20 hours a week and you get paid for 40 hours a week. There is a condition that you agree to work for the hospital for 2 years afterwards. Not only that, there is tuition reimbursement up to $3000/year and you are eligible for the sign-on bonus at the time you sign up. Fortunately, Canadians were offered this plan too!

With a little bit of research, perhaps you can get some help with school.

Good Luck to you!
