i dont know if this is the right place to post this but i am canadian. i studied in the philippines for bsn.
i graduated last march 2011. but never took the philippine nursing licensure exam there. my questions are:
1. how can i start things to work as an rn or anything else related in nursing in ontario.
2. i asked for crne the international packet application form but i have no idea how it will go. its a lot of money just for the evaluation for rn. and im not so sure if i will b able to sit on the rn exam. does anybody had the same situation and was able to sit on the exam and have a rn license?
3. do international nurse graduates need to have a refresher course or something related to enrolling to a class in ontario?
4. will i b able to work as a caregiver, rpn, or rn as a graduate nurse?

Hi anne
You cannot work as a RN until you are a RN, you cannot work as RPN until you are RPN, you cannot work as a graduate nurse until you have a letter of direction from the CNO saying you are eligible to write the exam, and have a job offer from an employer and have been granted a temporary licence from CNO. It is highly unlikely in the current job market you will be given a job offer because Ontario has more new grads than they do jobs. You can apply for caregiver positions, these positions are not considered nursing experience.
There are others who are in the same situation as you, you can use the search in the top right corner to find their threads, they have not come back to post updates, so we do not know if they were granted permission to write the CRNE.
International graduates must wait until CNO has indicated the need for more education in a letter of direction. The schools will not accept an internationally educated nurse into their programs without the letter of direction.
Since you are originally from Ontario, you would have been told in your high school careers course to look up all of this information prior to applying to university, did you, before you decided to attend a nursing school program in the Philippines rather than Canada?

Why wouldnt you write the Philippino exam? The the college of nurses evaluates international nurses to see if there education and experience is equivalent to Canadian nurses, but your not a nurse. You can work as a psw (called other names too) here, so I would apply to ltc and home care for those positions
ok thanks for ur help. will be contacting the cno and crne for sure. thanks a lot.
Your welcome for the help, just so you know you can contact the CNO as they are the regulating body for nurses in Ontario and they are the ones who decide if you are eligible to write the CRNE. You cannot contact the CRNE, as it an exam, not an organization.
ok thanks a lot.
