Canadian RN to US - BON didn't receive my CES Report issued months (4) ago?

Published

Hey everyone,

I had my Credentials Evaluation Service (Professional) Report (CES) sent to the Ohio Board of Nursing in June 2021. This looks like it has not been received per the BON's review checklist. Per CGFNS, the "report has been sent electronically to the OHIO BOARD OF NURSING and can be accessed and viewed by them within 3 business days." It has been 4 months since.

I also had my criminal background check done in September 2021, which the BON received.

I originally applied for license endorsement, but lacking an existing US license, I was advised by the BON to apply for initial licensure. Since they just got my background checks, I got an automatic e-mail saying I can write the NCLEX. But I already wrote it a few years ago, in Canada. I know I don't have to retake it.

Has anyone else noticed the Ohio BON, or any other US BON, not receiving the CES report? Both the criminal record check and CES report are electronically sent. I'd imagine the BON would have reviewed the report by now. Does it take longer for them to review the CES?

Thank you for reading my post. Currently awaiting a response from the Ohio BON, via e-mail or phone.

Sorry to hear that but I'm not surprised. Ohio is full of surprisingly incompetent people. You'll find that out on a daily basis once you move here.  Customer service is not their forte. I experienced that when I landed at Cleveland airport. If there's a way to resend your CES, you should do it. Same thing happened to me. I moved from California to Ohio. I had to call them and they found my papers on someone's desk. Their excuse was the person who had my papers went on maternity leave. This was 5 years ago. But as soon as they have my papers, it was expedited quickly and they communicated consistently.

Hi exmooks,

Thank you for your reply. How is working in Ohio so far?

I will first wait for a reply from CGFNS and the BON. As a last resort, I am willing to pay CGFNS to re-issue (if only it were cheaper!). It's a shame, since it's electronically sent as well.

I hope you find a job in a really good city. I'm working in Columbus. Very affordable standard of living compared to California. It's hard now during COVID-19. Staffing issues. It is overwhelming because you're spread so thin. It will get better. Good luck to you.

Appreciate that, exmooks! I too am drawn to the affordability of living there. I'm from British Columbia. I'll update if I get a response from CGFNS/Ohio. Cheers.

Just an update: Ohio BON replied and they did in fact receive my CES report. It looks like the CGFNS requirement on their application might also refer to the CGFNS program (separate but supposedly easier exam than the NCLEX); just a guess. I never asked about that specifically. They are just missing my original Canadian license verification (I sent last year but my regulatory body must have sent to the wrong address).

LOL I know it is has been years, but welcome to Ohio (I am a native ??).

For every bad apple, you will find two good ones, so that helps.
