Hello everyone,
This is my first time posting to allnurses.com. I'm seeking some advice and maybe some words of encouragement!
I married my husband back in June 2013 and moved from British Columbia, Canada to Plantation, Fl. Quite the change! I left behind a fantastic RN job. My former employer trained me very well. I have 2 years of acute cardiac step down nursing experience. It took me about 1 year to feel pretty confident in my cardiac nursing skills and more comfortable in my nursing position. I found nursing school and especially the training afterwards to be very stressful. But I persevered and I'm thankful for the experiences that I've had.
Now though, I find myself feeling the same anxiety I felt back when I graduated 2 years ago, the only difference is I know my cardiac nursing skills well. I'm most nervous about learning an entire new unit again, I'm worried about patient ratios (I had a 1:3 patient ratio in Canada) and I dread going through the adjustment process again. I know I can do it, I've done it before, I'm just curious if there are any Canadian RNs on this site that have recently transitioned into working at a US hospital. Are Canadian nurses well received? Was your Canadian RN training adequate?
Thank you kindly for any words of encouragement or sharing your thoughts!
Cheers!
Christina
