Canadian New Grad to USA?

Hello,

I am a Canadian new graduate RN (BScN) who has a job offer to obtain employment in the United States, specifically Florida on a Cardiac PCU unit full time. I am curious as to if anyone has any advice or tips in pursuing this career opportunity, and if you would recommend starting my practice in the USA over Canada?

Thank you.

Thank you for the response! I have actually accepted a position within the USA as I feel I will have more of an opportunity to gain experience there through both a nurse residency program as well as through obaining full time employment in an acute area, rather than obtaining casual employment within Canada.

Hi,
I’m a nursing student and would be interested in the route you take. I just want to know if you have been successful in the USA now and if you could share some information as to how to go about this route, I would appreciate it a lot.

Thanks,

Ednalyn

Until you graduate there isn’t much you can do. Which state are you planning on moving to?

California, hopefully. I’m planning ahead so I could be prepared. Is it advisable to look for a job there right after graduation and passing the NCLEX or have to wait a bit. I heard the opportunities of nurses in Ontario are not that good.

California will not accept application without US SSN and you can’t get that until in the US with valid work or immigrant visa and is also one of the hardest states for IENS to register in regardless whether initial or endorsing license. You may want to consider other states

Hello,

I was wondering how difficult it was for you to find full-time employment as a new Canadian grad to work in the USA? I am hoping to do the same thing and was wondering if you used a recruiter or job fair to find resources? How you came into contact with the hospitals you wanted to work at and was there a specific location you desired or were you open? Did they consider your GPA or what rotations you were interested in or had experience in? Sorry for all the questions, I would just love to connect and ask for your story to learn as I am a student looking for a similar outcome.

Thank you so much,

CJ

Anybody knows a good agency that offers employment for Canadian RNs to the US specifically in California?
