Canadian New Grad going to The States

Published

Hello everyone! Thanks in advance for your help!
I'll be graduating from the RN program at Ryerson in Canada at the end of this semester. However, my family lives in the states and I would like to move to be with them. Has anyone done this before? When can I start looking for a job, how can I be appealing to jobs, what special steps need to be taken?

Thank you again!

Hey. I graduated at same school in 2019 & Canadian. Passed Canadian NCLEX & became RN. I decided to try the US. Been working here for 1 year now...3years max then return to Canada or renew TN status/permit with same or different employer.

You may start with these key points:

1. Are you also US resident/citizen? Is someone sponsoring you?

2. You need to graduate BScN first and be Registered Nurse via CNO. Do NCLEX.

3. US - State - Board of nursing - are they accepting application without SSN? Can you endorse your Ontario RN? (Reciprocity/ Endorsement). Do they need CGFNS?

4. Employer - Agency or Hospital direct hire.

5. Time - Can you wait?
