Hi, I am currently in school to get my LPN certificate. I am a Canadain citizen through my birth and am now able to get Australian citizenship through my aussie mom. I would love to go a work as an LPN (or Enrolled Nurse) in Australia. Not sure on what steps to take and what is required of me. Some feedback would greatly be appriciatied

THANKS :) Christina

Hello,

First you need to find out what is required of you as far a immigration is concerned. I am Canadian and I have had children outside the country.

They still need to apply, immigration has a set of requirements that must be fulfilled before a child born abroad is recognised. You can't just show up and say I am here. Yes you are given preference but you will need to apply to get your papers to live there. At one point, parent could register children before they were two years old so they could have papers. I am not sure what your parent did for you. So I would say the first step would be to contact the closest Australian High Commission and get the infomation on what is required. Then find out how you would get accreditation recognised for your LPN. It will take some work, but if you really want to go, it will be worth it to do it right. So as I have seen here many times...DO YOUR HOMEWORK !!! it will save you a lot of time an grief. Just my two cents.. for what it is worth.

If LPNs are enrolled nurses she can come with a long business visa (4 years) if she has a sponsor employer. She can't migrate here as an enrolled nurse, only as an RN, but she can get a job and stay here as long as she has a sponsor. For Long Stay Business Visa (sublass 457) there is a list of ocupations that are eligible for this type of visa, one of them is 3411-11 Enrolled nurse. This is a temporary visa not a permanent one, but allowes enrolled nurses from overses to come and work in Australia.

Suzanne is correct... a temporary visa is a lot of work for an employer when they can hire locals that will stay, less paperwork to handle, and will be familiar with language (yes there are differences in the terminology), and they would not be investing money in training and developing someone that will eventually leave. If given the choice why would you hire someone on a temporary visa, seriously think about it... I would seriously think a major move to another country through if it is only a temporary visa. Most people in the USA on Temporary Visas are transferred by their companies and they go back to their home countries with the same company. I have lived in many countries understand that it does take a while to get a job as a newcomer. So what will you do while your waiting and looking for a sponsor???
