Hi all,Just a few questions.I am originally from Nigeria but now in Tennessee doing the accelerated nursing program for degree holders. I am going to graduate in December and hope to do the NCLEX sometime next year. I am going to be a Canadian citizen before June next year cos I alreayd applied.I know that I can work next year with OPT and have the following questions. I. How do I go along getting the green card with either a Canadian citizenship or a Nigerian citizenship?2. How long is the process?3. Is changing from TN visa to greencard easy?4. Which state is faster to apply from based on shortage of nurses?any advise?Maro

If you do not have one, then you will not be able to go the TN Visa route.The green card cannot be applied for by you, it requires petitioning by an employer. That is the only way it works.Immigration is done by Visa Centers, it has nothing to do with how short a state is in terms of nurses. Each center has a different timetable has to how fast that they are processing. In the recent past, California has been about two years and for those processed out of the Vermont office, the wait is about one year.

I am already a permanent resident of Canada. I have applied for Canadian citizenship and I will be applying for the Passport also with makes me eligible for the TN Visa route.As per the green card, can you live in say California or Baltimore and get your employer to apply through the Vermont Office for instance.Maro
suzanne4, RN 26,410 Posts May 29, 2005 Depending on where your employer is, that will determine where your petition is filed. You cannot pick and choose a visa processiong center.

This is where I get confused. The TN clearly states that it's a non-immergrational visa, if I apply for green card AND concurrently using the TN to work, wouldn't that be contradictory?
