Ontario Second Entry Nursing Fall 2018

World Canada CA Programs

Published

I'm applying to the second entry nursing program in February 2018 for Fall 2018 admission. I'm applying to York, Humber, Trent, Nipissing and potentially Western. I'll be applying with a BA in psych. This is probably super premature, but I wanted some reassurance from fellow applicants. I also wanted to know if anyone, past or previous applicants, know the weighting of Additional Information forms and how they're considered during the application process? I was diagnosed with ADHD during my second year of university, after being misdiagnosed two previous times, and it's certainly had an impact on my grades. My GPA is going to be something like 6.7 on a 9.0 scale. And this really has me worried. Has anyone else had any experiences with Add. Forms?

Good luck to all!

Hello everyone!

I'm currently completing my fourth year in a health science degree at the university of Ottawa.

My cGPA isn't the greatest (3.4), but in the last two years it is around 3.7 so I am hoping that is enough.

I am applying to York, Humber, Western, and UofT.

Does anyone know if York rejects people who have to do prerequisites over the summer? My first and second year are not great and I don't have a high enough grade in Microbiology but my school wouldn't let me retake it. I am planning of taking it at York in the summer.

Also, for UofT, I don't have a lot of health-related experience, but I could definitely get some great reference letters. Do they put a lot of emphasis on healthcare experience?

And how do we study for CASPer?

Sorry, lots of questions.

Good luck to you all

Hi, thanx for this topic.

Im a 4th year health science student, wanting to really get into UOFT. My GPA for the last 10 credit is 4.0/4.0 and cGPA is 3.9 overall. I volunteer at the hospital for the past 2 years and Im an executive for many clubs and volunteer for many humanitarian events. I did a lot of research courses that is health related. Any feedback with what are my chances. Im afraid that they prefer those with only research experience.

Thanx

Hey everyone. I'm currently working on my supplementary application for UofT's nursing program and I'm currently on the Volunteer/Work Reference stage. Would anyone know how the reference form is structured and what is asked? I'd like to know as much information as possible so that I choose the right supervisor or manager based on the contents of the reference form. Thanks in advance!

Hey everyone, I'm not an applicant, I am actually a first year accelerated nursing student at U of T! I used this forum a lot last year (second entry 2017) to help ease some of my worries, so I was hoping to give back a little to the incoming year of applicants! If anyone has questions about the U of T program itself I can try and answer those, or even about the atmosphere of the school, how the clinical placements are etc. For those worried about GPA I can tell you that "someone" with a 3.03 can get into UofT, so don't worry :)

Thank you for posting this! I do have a couple of questions as UofT is my first choice! Do you have any advice for writing the personal statement? And would you mind telling us a little about what experience you had on your application when you were applying? Much appreciated! And congrats on getting in this year!

For the personal statement I really recommend have a few people whose judgement you trust looking at it. I find sometimes while ideas seem clear to you they don't necessarily come off the same way to an objective reader. I went through quite a few drafts by doing this. Try and be honest and don't be afraid to stray from the generic "I want to help people" answer (not to say that isn't an important factor!). It's all about how you take your experiences and explain how you developed skills relevant to a good nurse, so like advocacy, critical thinking, sound judgement, etc. There's definitely no "right" way to answer it, and most importantly don't make silly grammar or spelling mistakes! It just doesn't look professional.

In terms of my own personal application, I did not have the best grades, I graduated from a strong university with a 3.03GPA and no research experience. I made up for this by having dedicated a lot of time to a competitive sport, working a consistent part time job that involved a lot of communication, volunteering at a hospital, volunteering as production manager at several theatre companies, and working as a standardized patient. My classmates this year make up one of the most diverse group of people I have ever met. So there is no "perfect" candidate but I do think they value diversity and unique perspectives. It is all about how you present your acquired skills, rather than focusing on what you don't have on your resume. Applications are stressful (I applied to 10 programs because I was so nervous!) but if you spend time on your applications, focus on building your resume, and maintain your grades this semester, you should be fine!

^^^ 10? Wow! How many were you able to get into?

I've a similar cGPA and I'm worried sick. Applied to just 3. Trent, Mac and UWO. My first choice is UWO.

yes 10, I worry a lot haha I applied to 5 4yr programs and 5 2yr programs and I actually had more luck with the 2yr university programs surprisingly! I ended up walking away with 7 acceptance letters, so there is hope for us low GPA'ers :)

Lol. I know right. Which are the 5 two year programs you applied to? Guess you got into all except One?

Thanks for being a glimmer of hope. Hahahaha.

I applied to Trent, Queen's, UofT, McMaster, and Western. The only one I didn't get into was Western, my application was automatically screened out early in the admissions process due to GPA.

Thanks for the response. Looks like Western would turn me down too. Oh well. . .

Maybe I should apply to two more? UofT and York? Hmmmm. . .

Hey Everyone!

I'm not applying for 2018 entry, since i'm still finishing up my B.Sc in Kin.

I don't have the highest grades this term but so far cGPA is around a 3.6. After this term it may fall. I will be trying to increase my GPA in my last year after my co-op terms.

My first choice is McMaster, and then Western/Trent for Fall 2019 entry ( I know, i 'm a year early)

But i'm looking forward to keeping up with you all during the admissions cycle :)

As for volunteering, I don't have much experience. I have had research experience at Toronto Rehab, and in lab at my university. I do have various co-op placements experience and part time employment. I hope to get more by the end of next year.
