Hi, I got accepted into the George Brown RPN program for January 2019 intake. I wanted to know about the program, how the course load is, placement and general program information. Also considering studying ahead of time so please add in any important things to know material wise! thank you !!

I graduated a few years back but it looks like the program is pretty much the same as when I took it. The first semester is pretty heavy but it's not bad. You'll do a short clinical placement, I did rehab but it could be elsewhere. Second semester gets a lot tougher. The expectations are higher, the course load is a bit lighter but the courses are tougher. I did a long term care placement which is where you start to get your feet wet.

Third semester is about as difficult as second semester, you'll probably do a medicine floor placement. You'll start to feel more confident in what you're doing by the end of this semester.

For the first three semesters the placements are all with a group of seven other students. For the fourth semester you do your consolidation, which is your independent final placement. You go on your own and work under a nurse for 400 hours. I did mine one a palliative care floor, but you could end up in ccc, medicine, med surg, or a number of other places. The course load is a lot lighter by this point, but if you've never worked shift work before this part of the program can be draining.

If you're going to study ahead of time consider starting with anatomy and make use of the Kahn academy for videos. They are super helpful.

Hi there @husnas, wondering if you can give me any insight about the George Brown RPN program now you're in it, as I've just been accepted for September 2019 and on here I've only read really negative things about it ! I have to choose between GBC and Humber and not sure which way to go.

I am going into GBC in Jan2020, what did you need to have (specific supplies?) I have a friend at Humber that needed a stethoscope and stuff do you need that a GBC? I'm just trying to be as prepared as possible. Also, did you find that you needed a lot of text books?? Thank you!

@GB Bio and Chem must be 70 and up.

hi I applied for the January 2021 gbc I have an 85% average what are the chances of me getting accepted

I got my offer for Jan21 start date. I accepted it today.

I think min. average is 86%. Not sure. But I did prep for interview because I was told that play a major part.
