If you're working at Union Regional, then you're okay. There are a lot of suburban neighborhoods popping up all the way around Monroe (from the $100's to the $500's). Not much in the way of apartment living. Traffic isn't too bad inside Monroe itself, but good luck driving into Charlotte. As far as entertainment, I hope you like movies and biker bars. Otherwise, you'll have to go into Charlotte and ultimately that's just too much effort half the time.

If you're working in Charlotte, do NOT move to Monroe. I've lived in Monroe for two years and I go to nursing school in charlotte (& my wife works in Pineville). We're selling the house and moving closer since it takes us 25 minutes just to get to the I-485 beltline).
