number of seconds divided by number of increments equals seconds per increment
1) change number of minutes to seconds (change the 4 minutes to seconds)
2) figure out number of increments (figure out your dose, then multiply the number of mLs times the increments per mL based on syringe)
3) divide step one by step two and you'll get the seconds per increment.

i need some help on calculating iv drug pushes...i need a formula to know how much medicine to give over seconds...here is an example:
dilaudid 4mg iv push prn for severe pain, may administer every 6 hours as needed.

give at a rate of every 2mg over 4minutes
