Can someone enlighten me PART II

Published

Good day my fellow nurses ! i was hired to my first nursing job Monday, and started orientation Tuesday-until just tomorrow,Thursday(3 days orientation :(), then probably have 2 days off then ill come back to work on my own with 28 - 30 pt's. I can say im not a slow learner but from passing meds to doing PAPERWORKS,calling pharmacy, taking TO from physician, lab works, understanding pt's behavior, dealing with the "team" and hundreds more of responsibility in an 8 hour shift is kind of OVERWHELMING and STRESSFUL(im stressed ATM just thinking about it) and i can see the margin of error is probably high at this point.

So any advice, comment, suggestions would be appreciated. How can i pass meds more effectively, tips when talking to physician, and to make my job simpler and having fun working, etc......

PS - can nurses get away with tickets if threyre wearing a uniform and theres a stethoscope hanging from rear view mirror ?jk :p

I cannot say that Ive been there because I havent. However, I do have helpful advice. Ok, here goes...before you do or think anymore...CALM yourself, take a very deep breath. Now, you have been hired and that is great news. Dont try to go fast, remember the things that you have been taught in the critical thinking area specifically.

Remember to be accurate and precise, use good clinical judgment, if you dont know something simply ask. You will master this but it will take at least a little time. Go in with confidence, be observant. Try real hard not to stress, feel overwhelmed...take another real deep breath, slow down and pace yourself. Over time you will see yourself breezing through the day.

Above all, keep a positive attitude, say nice things to yourself, about yourself, and about your situation, encourage yourself. You will be absolutely fine. Let us know about your first week.
