Can someone answer this question

I have just started my third semester in nursing school. I am in Psych we have 7 chapters to read before our first real theory class. I seem to be reading a lot of stuff that we went over in fundementals. So do I need to focus on this stuff again. Like the Id, Ego, Superego and ect..... or should I just mainly focus more on the mental disorders and how and why this happens. I am just confused so some help would be nice. :uhoh3: Thanks

Focus on what material is new to you.

any more feedback!

If you already know it, you don't need more of it -- some people need a review, though, which is probably why it was assigned. Only you know if you need a review or not.

You can bet pathologies and txs will be the meat of it but how many questions on the basics will be up to your instructor. I would ask him/her. You didn't mention nursing dx. Are they doing alot with that in this course?

Try reading about the diagnoses that are most common (schizophrenia. manic depression, depression, borderline personality and dementia). You aren't going to remember everything about these illnesses. Perhaps, just a few of the symptoms (e.g. mania, flight of ideas, pressured speech).

Ask the nurses on the floor about their standard of care. There is a book in the front of every chart on my unit which lists the common Nsg Dx and interventions.

I think it's great you are going the extra mile to prepare yourself. Talk to the nurses on the unit. I'm sure they'll be glad to help. Enjoy psych!
