:twocents:my friend wants to be an RN now she has seen me go through the program. She thinks she has BPD and takes antidepressants. Can she still go be an RN.? I didn't know so thought I would ask my friends out in allnurses.

Don't see why not. Depression is just anothere illness. You can be an RN if you are on antihypertensives, antiarrhythmics, or antibiotics, why not antidepressants?

The only thing they would want to know is if you were in the hospital for depression. If you take antidep. and you are better and your Dr. may have to write a letter. I don't think they will even ask.

No employer would ever ask if you're taking antidepressants or if you've been hospitalized for depression . Even us nurses have a right to medical privacy.

I know it's been awhile since the last post, but I'm wondering if you have to report the use of antidepressants when you are being hired for an rn position? The hospital want to work for requires an extensive medical history, including a list of all medications. Thanks.
