Can you "burn through" your birth control pills?

I have been on Alesse (aviane, generic) for two years now. No probs. Take my pill every day, never miss even one. Get my periods when I am supposed to, blah, blah. Anyway, I started bleeding one week the Friday before I was supposed to start the placebo pills (my period week). Thought that was weird because it never happens to me, but went on with my business. Problem is, the bleeding never stopped. It is not heavy but is there, enough to where I have to use a tampon every day. I have now gone through a whole nother pill cycle and it is still there. I called my doc and have been playing phone tag with the OBGYN nurse. I call again tomorrow.

Anyway, last week I had blood taken. My HDL cholesterol came back at 40 (that is what it used to be BEFORE I started on the pill). Last March (while on the same pills as now) my HDL level was 95 (on Depo Provera my HDL came back 42)!! I know estrogen can raise your HDL cholesterol and it obviously did for me. I wonder if the sudden marked decrease in my HDL has something to do with estrogen uptake in my body.??? Nothing else has changed significantly in my life, lifestyle or diet wise...

Have you heard of that? All of a sudden birth control pills not working anymore as if your body just isn't processing the estrogen?? I have been under a lot of sress the last few months. I also had an unexplained high fever (103.5) that went away after about six hours. I work in the ER though and that could be unrelated. It was the Tuesday after I began bleeding. Otherwise I feel great, I guess.

Does stress effect estrogen levels???

I don't need a diagnosis, I am seeing my doc. Just wondering if anyone could answer my questions....:) Thanks!!

Ok, of the 114 people that looked at this, no one knows anything about estrogen??? LOL. Just wondering if y'all had seen something like this before. A yes or no would do....:chuckle

Oh well...It was worth a try......:p

Good to know that you'll be seeing your doctor soon.

Have you gained weight lately? Just wondering...

...Because stress increases cortisone levels, which can cause you to gain weight, which can cause the hormones in birth control pills to not get absorbed correctly.

The reason that you have not received an answer to this, not that you want a diagnosis, but you are seeking medical advice, and that is against the TOS of this website.

You need to contact your health care provider for issues directly involvng you.

Take care of yourself.
