Can one skip lower Bio and successfully take Bio 201 (A/P)

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am enrolled with the 'Maricopa Community Colleges' in Arizona. Specifically I am attending Glendale Community College working on my prerequisites for the Nursing Program.

At GCC/AZ, lower Bio 156 (Introductory Bio) is not required to take BIO 201 (A/P) if you have completed 1 full year of Bio in high school. (They do encourage you to still take the class, though)

This is what I want to know:

  1. Has anyone skipped lower Bio 156 and went right to 201? Were you successful? or
  2. Did you take 156 and find that you needed it to pass 201?

Please share your experience.

I personally would like to skip it to save money and time. I am a student who studies hard and is disciplined, but I need to know from others, how it went for them.

Thanks!

SageFemmeReveur - I agree with you and Khanacademy.org has already taught me bunch. What a great resource that is.

Well, I am going to wing it. I am going to skip Bio 156 and head right into Bio201 A&P. If I think to write back and let everyone know how I did, I will do so. Surely someone else out there had/has the same questions. :) Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Update: So I did in fact make a risky choice to go right into 201 Anatomy and Physiology (skipping 156) - So far, I am doing good. I am understanding it with relative ease. I did take a fundamentals of nutrition class (which was required) the semester before - I think, that class prepared me as well. I will follow-up at the end of the end of the semester with a post and a grade. That way anyone else who looks up this thread and has the same question about skipping the lower Bio 156 class, can see the outcome.

Final Update For any future readers of this post.

I passed both Anatomy/Physiology 201 and 202 with high marks! It is very possible to test out or skip the intro Bio 156, and still succeed in Anatomy and Physiology. I did find that taking my Fundamentals of Nutrition class before hand was very useful. Anyhow, I studied hard, I showed up to class and found that it was fairly easy to pass - providing you ACTUALLY put the work in,

201 - Grade 88%

202 - Grade 95%

Good luck to anyone else in the future who also makes the same choice to test out/skip Bio 156 and move ahead.

Cheers.

Onwards and Upwards.

Hi Starreacher26, I know this has been quite a while, but what college and which professor did you take the class from? Thanks!
