Can a medical assistant take the CNA or PCT exam ?

Published

I went to a medical assistant 9 month technical trade school program . At first when I went to the school I was going to do the CNA program which was 1,000 but the student advisor had told me that a young 18 year old wouldn't enjoy such a job so I decided on MA instead . Iv been working for about a year now as a MA and have started college for nursing the college I'm in is a 2 year RN not LPN how ever IV realized working as a medical assistant I don't have a flexible schedule at all I have to work shifts like 9-5 ,11-7 ,11-8 and I work a second job because the first one doesn't pay enough . I haven't been able to get a job in a hospital yet because I haven't taken my license exam for Phelbotomy and RMA I put them off because most hospitals aren't hiring us anyways I just know that with the license your able to request a hire pay then people who only obtain a school diploma . I wanted to know if I would be able to take a CNA exam with my experience I do phlebotomy EKG , allergy tests , Spirometry ,ABIs ,injections and I do all the other office work and helping elderly patients get dressed and cleaning there feet . Helping them to walk . Or even the PCT exam would it be possible my second year in college or now ?

I don't know about your area, but in my neck of the woods PCT isn't a certification offered by an outside organization. The hospital hires you, puts you through their in house training, and poof your a PCT. Call HR and see what if any requirements they have to hire for that job.

I live in New York there are certificate program schools to become a PCT

It looks like you need to take a state-approved CNA course to qualify to take the exam.
