Can an LVN in California connect IV tubing to a perineurial block? Let's say that Ropivacaine is being infused. The LVN would not be able to start the infusion correct?

In California, the scope of practice for Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) is regulated by the California Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT). LVNs have limitations on the administration of certain medications, and the ability to administer and manage intravenous (IV) medications is typically restricted to IV fluids without additives.

LVNs in California are generally not authorized to administer IV medications, including the connection of IV tubing to administer medications such as Ropivacaine.

Even registered nurses have competency requirements for perineural and epidural infusions, which are managed by anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists who administer anesthesia and blocks.

It's crucial to know and follow the policies and procedures established by the facility where you are employed.
