I have heard that LPNs licensed in PA cannot give meds without an RN present. Any truth to this? Anyone know where exactly to find support or refuting information in the practice act?

Jun 5, 2013 Not true if you are talking generally, and even IVs; I was a LPN for 7 years and I gave all meds without a RN "supervising"; still hold my license, even though I am a RN. LPNs do have IV therapy classes to gain competency as well, I took advantage of that and was able to practice, depending on where I worked. You can also look at the PA BON. They just expanded IV therapy roles.
