Published

i'm interested in real world scenario. can you support a family on a nurses salary in cincinnati?

i know it all depends on how you live, but we live pretty simply and i don't think we could do it where we live now. does anyone have any experience there that you would be willing to share?

Hi, I'll try to answer your question though I am just a nursing student in Cincinnati myself. Like you said, it depends on how you live, but as far as I know, I have not met a nurse that has a family and not been able to survive here. However, it depends,Do you mean a single parent income with children? If so, how many children. I don't mean to pry but in order to give you a real world answer, that information makes a difference in the equation...

i don't mind. we have three young kids, no childcare costs though. my husband would like to be able to focus on ministry and not have to work for a living outside of that-atleast for as long as we can manage with one income.

Then yes, I have lived in Cincinnati all my life, and I do believe that as a nurse your family can survive as long as you have a budget. You may not be able to have all the luxuries but you can definitely make it work. Most hospitals start nurses out at around 20.00 an hour, give or take a few cents. Let me know if I can be of any assistance to you. Happy New Year!

Specializes in lots of specialties.

There are other types of jobs for nurses that do pay more. That would depend on what your specialty is and what of nurse you are.LPN or RN? Home health, Vitas, case managment, hospital, LTC, dialysis...etc.....so many choices....you can even pick up with agency if you like. I have a regular job at the hospital but I do pick up 1 day/week with agency. This allots me the extra cash to do with what I will. I hope this helps. It would be a good idea to look at jobs in the aear and see if there is something that you might like, make the calls and go from there.

Specializes in LTC.

I am a single mother with a four year old. I also drive a new car and live in a nice townhouse. I do not have any childcare expenses though ( thank god for grandmas) I think we live comfortably. Anyone could use more money, but overall we make it by pretty good. Oh I also pay student loans back :( But I guess youve just gotta know where to go to get paid right. Are you an RN or LPN?? Ive heard wonderful things about care connection of cincinnati. Pay is great, benefits are great. Youve gotta have 1 year exp. though, so Ive got 3 more months. Good luck!!

Hi Peace,

What is Care Connection of Cincy?

Specializes in lots of specialties.

Care connections is a homecare agency but they do not appear to have any open positions

HH is a difficult job at times.
