Can I take TEAS retest before scheduled date?

Published

Hello everyone, I just wanted to ask a question regarding the TEAS. My school only allows to take the TEAS every 365 days if we would like to retest we have to go through remediation which is taking classes on the subjects I perform poorly. Anyhow, my question is can I still take the test before thoese 365 days and take it again by the 365 days? The way they only count the one after the 365 days or does it look bad if I take it earlier a couple time lets say. Reason, why am asking is because I forgot to ask at the information session. Hope someone has similar experiences. Thank you for your time

I've done very well on the TEAS despite being out of school for a very long time. These are my tips: use only ATI online review and the ATI practice exams, watch Carolyn McAllister's youtube videos for the test taking skills, verbal, and reading portions of the exam, and limit your studying to 3 hours a day.

The ATI online review/exam has everything you need to do well on the test. Take notes, google things you don't understand, and review those notes prior to the exam. I wish there was a math and science youtube videos that I can recommend but there are none, just look for some explaining roman numerals and the periodic table of elements. If you really feel you need more, I recommend Mcgraw-Hill's Nursing School Entrance Exam Review but don't do the questions, USE ATI for that.

I took the TEAS and HESI recently and got a 91 Exemplary and a 93 respectively. I did take the TEAS V 3 years ago and got a 93 Exemplary. Did a total of 20 hours of studying. I finished about an hour early for both exams but most of the students finished an hour before me. This leads me to believe that most are not using their time wisely. I'm 100% positive I could of done better if I prepared more but did not feel the need to.

Other tips I can give you is always read the questions and answers first. This is true for the math and science portions. About 10 percent of the math questions can be answered without even working out the problems. Also I would advise not eating right before the exam as all the blood will go to your stomach instead of circulating to your brain. For example, you might want to schedule your exam for lunch and eat a big breakfast that's light in grease and protein. You can google whats best to eat and times but there are many studies indicating what you eat and when you eat it has a profound impact and test performance. You should also visit the testing center prior to taking the test, go there early and find some place to hang out prior to the test. I recommend coffee but in small amount as jitters and caffeine burn out can impact your scores as well.

I believe if you focus on ATI's review materials and study lightly as I described, you will do well. TEAS is not a difficult test but you need to zoom in on what is important to do well on the exam. All of these review books and youtube video's may indeed help you but I do not find them helpful at all for the the actual test. So please study the ATI online review (comprehensive and focused), ATI practice exams (Form A and B), and the Carolyn McAllister youtube videos. Good luck.
