Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello,

I am wondering if I can take Pre-Reqs for ABSN programs anywhere? at a community college?

I graduated with a B.S. degree in Human Physiology with a 3.8 gpa about 6 years ago from a top/well-known university. I have a lot of physiology and anatomy courses completed, but have not taken some pre-requisite courses that a lot of nursing schools seem to require:

1. Microbiology with lab

2. Human Growth and Development

3. Sociology

Can I take these courses at any community college? Can I even take some of them online? Will the nursing schools care where I take these prerequisite courses?

Thanks!

Your science courses may have expired if it was over five years ago, so you'll need to check on that. You really need to check directly with the program that you are applying for in regards to what they will accept. Community college courses should be fine but you never know. Online courses -except lab sciences- should also be fine, but that's another question for your program coordinator. My advice is to take as few online classes as you can manage in the event that you one day want to go to a graduate program which could be more strict on online vs in person. Best of luck to you.

I took a lot of mine through a community college. Some of those were online (genetics was online). No one cared when I applied for my ABSN; they just wanted me to have had the classes. 7 years was the limit for mine.

I took my pre-reqs through a local community college. I took some classes in person, some online, and a couple hybrid (online lecture, in-person lab/quiz sections).
