Can I still become a nurse with a low GPA?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I'm currently a student at Armstrong State University in Savannah, GA. My original major was pre-nursing (BSN), but I had transportation issues and was not able to finish my classes one semester. I was given four F's, and my current GPA is a 1.79; therefore, I had to change my major to liberal studies-general. When you retake classes at Armstrong they do not replace the old grade with the new, rather they keep both as separate grades. Are there any other schools that would allow me to retake these classes in order to bring up my GPA?

Also, any advice? I hold a current nurse aide certification and work as a hospital unit clerk on a medsurg floor. 21 years old. Male. Thank you in advance. :)

Hello?

OP, if you have not already done so, you should PM Simplistic.

Unfortunately, the other poster(s) would not know if you replied unless he/she returned to the thread.

Other than that -

"Can I still become a nurse with a low GPA?"

Yes.

Next thread.

i agree to what people are saying here. For my case, i wanted to do nursing really bad but my counselor told me that with the GPA I had at that time (2.74 :x, bc I wasted so many classes [W's and didn't know what major I really wanted to do]) it will be impossible. She gave me the idea of going towards health science route, and do nursing after I get my BS in HS.

But I didn't give up. My nursing pre reqs weren't the greatest (mostly B's) and some cc's only want u to have certain pre req GPA. After 1 year of doing HS, and 2 years of waiting to get in a nursing program, I got the call, 3 days ago, that I am in (at my local cc). My overall gpa is still 2.8 rn, but I'm working my way up to get a better GPA bc I will need to have 3.0 and above to get my BSN after.

Good luck to you!

I had two Fs, one D, and a few C- in my undergrad. I didn't really care about school in the beginning. But I got my act together and graduated with a ~2.8 GPA and a last 60 semester unit GPA of ~3.9 . I was accepted into an ABSN program and a few community college CC programs. This is in California too where nursing schools are known to be really competitive to get into. My advice to you is to ace all your nursing prerequisites and strive for As from now on. A majority of programs like to see a positive trend in your GPA so having a 4.0 in your last 60 semester units can benefit you.

Hi there! I'm sort of in a similar situation, and I was wondering, which ABSN program you were accepted to if you don't me asking? I'm trying to figure out where I should apply!
